Dealing with people would have been frightening two years ago. I couldn’t face anyone. But it’s part of the job and I love it now. I’ve never spoken so much in my life. Sometimes I ask another member of the team to ring someone for a news event and I can see the fear, and that fear was in me before so its important for people to be given the opportunity, because if I’d not been pushed I’d be still laying in bed

I have improved my speech and language skills and i am now much more self confident. Working with Csin has helped me focus on what i need to do to help myself I feel completely different than when I was 17. I feel happier and healthier. I feel energetic. I want to get a job, I want to get a qualification, I want to do something with my life. I’ve wasted six years, I want to start now.

Sometimes I don’t feel well but I try to stick it out. Before I came here I used to wake up late and didn’t have anything to do. I used to be scared to go out on my own. I’m a lot more confident than I used to be, now I go out all the time. I come to radio on my own, I don’t need anyone to bring me or take me home. I’ve got a routine – I go to college and when I’m not at college I come to radio and if I’ve got free time I go out. I don’t think I would have gone back to college if I hadn’t come to Radio first.

I was recommended to Csin and told they were offering work placements for people with mental health problems so I called them. I liked the fact that I could get real live work experience without having to explain myself. Within my first week I was working as part of an outside broadcast team on a real radio station . It was great to get stuck in straight away and do something important
